What is local search? Within the past year or so, local search has been rolled out by Google to appear at the top of the search listings. The results, often accompanied by a map, are shown when a search is made which lends itself to a local service rather than a generic one.

This image shows a search for "isle of wight architect" and lists the local search results along with a letter marker for where they are on the map. You can see that Alchemy Architects (one of our clients) is in the top position in the local search results.

Whilst many of the techniques to rank highly in local search results are the same for normal SEO, there are some different aspects that need to be addressed in addition to the standard procedures.
